About Kerns Fireplace & Spa
Kerns Fireplace & Spa was born from one of the harshest winters in Ohio’s history—the Blizzard of 1978. When founder Tom Kerns found himself and his family without heat or power for two weeks, it was a life-changing experience. Forced to seek shelter with a neighbor who had a non-electric fireplace, Tom realized the importance of a reliable, alternative heat source. With that powerful moment as his motivation—and a drive to start something of his own—Tom launched Kerns Fireplace & Spa right from his home in Celina, Ohio.
What began as a one-man operation selling non-electric heating sources from a garage and then a barn has grown into a trusted, multi-location business with a reputation for outstanding products and unmatched customer service. Today, we proudly serve customers from our original location at 5217 Tama Road in Celina, as well as our second store at 4147 Elida Road in Lima.
Kerns Fireplace & Spa remains a family-owned and operated business, now spanning three generations. Tom’s sons-in-law, John Grover and Mike Casto, currently manage the Lima and Celina stores, respectively, and even his grandson has joined the team—helping carry on the legacy of dedication, reliability, and service.
Over the past four decades, we’ve sold more than 100,000 units, including wood and gas fireplaces, stoves, spas, and grills. But what truly sets us apart is our commitment to service after the sale. Whether it’s in-store or on-site, we stand by our products and support our customers long after installation. We believe in doing more than what’s expected—offering extended warranty support, expert maintenance, and personal attention that’s hard to find in today’s world.
With 80% of our business coming from repeat customers, we’re honored to now serve second- and third-generation families, and we treat every new customer as if they’re part of the Kerns family, too.
